A perfect illumination: SHINee World VI Encore SHINee’s BACK

SHINee lit up the sold-out Inspire Arena with their SHINee WORLD VI [PERFECT ILLUMINATION: SHINee’S BACK] encore concert, a three-day event celebrating their 16th debut anniversary.

The much-awaited return titled, “SHINee WORLD VI [PERFECT ILLUMINATION: SHINee’S BACK]” was held at the Inspire Arena last May 24 to 26, 2024. The three-day encore show sold out in less than five minutes with the venue’s total capacity of 30,000. The concert was also live streamed globally via Beyond LIVE and Weverse for two nights (May 25 and 26), coinciding with SHINee’s 16th debut anniversary on the 25th.

Members ONEW, MINHO, KEY, and TAEMIN were in complete attendance — an anticipated reunion following ONEW’s health-related hiatus which started last June 2023 and made a return last April 2024. They were touched and grateful to celebrate their anniversary once again with SHINee WORLD and paid tribute to the late JONGHYUN throughout their performances.

We are still in awe. Let’s take a walk down memory lane. SHINee WORLD, are you ready for a recap?

The show starts with us all at the edge of our seats, cheering as soon as the whisper “SHINee’s BACK!” plays. It was an explosive set to begin the night with Sherlock (Clue version), Lucifer, and Stranger. Then came Satellite, a mesmerizing number as the stages started to revolve around the arena, moving as if we were levitating along with them. The iconic microphone stands then appear as they perform Dream Girl. Ending the intro set strong with Identity, an anthem that represents SHINee’s unapologetic confidence.

It’s the first ment of the night! “Hello, we are shining SHINee!”

The members reveal that they revamped the setlist to celebrate ONEW’s return and their 16th birthday party. The group leader then takes the moment to thank all of the fans for waiting and that he’s happier and healthier now.

A new set starts evoking a brighter vibe! In comes Like It and Good Evening which had our hearts pumped and fluttering. Then came the dancers’ stage, hyping us with Juliette and Breaking News.

The next stage is edgier and mature. Don’t Call Me exudes a commanding aura. Fan-favorite, Body Rhythm, was a long-awaited one as it was ONEW’s first time performing it live — it had the whole arena go crazy! They kept the hype going with Juice (they know they got the juice, alright)!

Catching their breath with the next ment, ONEW shares how great their teamwork was especially for Juice. Meanwhile, KEY describes Body Rhythm as…rhythmical (oh, he knows what’s up). Fan service king, MINHO, flexes his muscles to a “Super Saiyan” pose as TAEMIN playfully shares that the alternative name he gave to this show is called the “Dragon Ball Concert”. Why? Because they’re more powerful together!

And just like that, it’s the addictive Ring Ding Dong, a major throwback earworm everyone (and their moms) know — this being their first time performing RDD again, after around seven to eight years! Cranking up the energy levels with Everybody, with MINHO shooting a kiss up to the sky for JONGHYUN! View turned the arena into the biggest party as SHAWOLS chanted along. Tonight, we let it all go with The Feeling!

The crowd then tunes in as the nostalgic 1 of 1 VCR plays a silhouette of all five members — JONGHYUN’s spirit was surely felt.

And just in time, the members appear again with a sweet, stripped down version of Replay which was the perfect way to look back and celebrate their debut. Keeping us swooning on memory lane with a smooth performance of Love like Oxygen. Continuing with Aside, hugging as TAEMIN sings JONGHYUN’s line:

“But some day, I want to put my heart into it

And tell you this long-time story as I hold you in my arms”

Starting the ment with TAEMIN joking, “Are you jealous? I can hug them because I’m part of SHINee”. Key also thanks the fans as he notices the crowd’s lightsticks spelling out “SHINeecomplete with 5 hearts.

Up next was a song dedicated to SHAWOLS (aka SHINee’s official fanbase). MINHO invited the crowd to raise up their hands with a diamond gesture as they sang Diamond Sky — a love letter to SHINee’s guiding light, assuring that these diamonds last forever. Colors of the Season, another Japanese track taking us back in time with tears in our eyes.

TAEMIN invites the crowd to sing along to this one. It’s time for a song close to our hearts, An Encore, with voices aloud up to the moon’s sky.

The SHAWOLS fill up the arena singing Replay as they await the members’ return once more. Setting the stage ablaze again, SHINEE WE BACK for HARD (another first for ONEW)! The live band adds passion with extra percussion, making the beat harder.

With a renewed spirit, MINHO praises their leader: “It’s ONEW hyung’s first HARD performance. Finally, the crown has returned to its king”.

It was a time machine ride yet again, let’s go Hitchhiking, baby! Wrapping the set up and welcoming us to their world with Runaway — MINHO playfully covers JONGHYUN’s part (with matching mannerisms too).

SHINee ends the night sharing that the time flew by so fast. KEY said that there are still so many of their songs they have yet to perform and hopes that they can by the next tour! In comes a surprise cake to celebrate their birthday, closing their eyes and making a wish. Could the wish be SHINee WORLD VII?

We’ll be together for the next 525 years! That’s a promise!” After a heartfelt round of thanks, they seal the show with their thumbs up routine.

The live ends here for those tuning in via streaming! But for all three shows, the members come back with an “en-encore”, performing the songs Why So Serious, Juliette, and more snippets to extend their gratitude.

SHINee WORLD VI will surely go down in history with greatest hits and fan favorites spanning 16 years of music. It’s surreal witnessing one of the K-pop world’s pillars, in a night full of fond memories tied to their songs. Let’s look forward to more SHINee! 💎
